Privacy Policy

Viadine ("we", "our", "the app") is a free travel tool that helps visitors to Korea translate menus, find restaurants, and get public transit directions. This page explains what information the app handles, how it's used, and who it's shared with.
Information We Collect
- Location. If you allow it, your device's location is used to show nearby restaurants and calculate transit directions. If you decline, the app still works using a default reference point instead of your real location.
- Menu photos. When you scan a menu, the photo is sent to Google's Gemini API for translation. If you choose to "contribute" a menu photo so future visitors can see it too, the translated text (not the photo itself) is saved so it can be shown to other users of the same restaurant.
- Contact form submissions. If you use the "Contact" or "Report a problem" feature, we receive the message you write, an email address if you choose to provide one (so we can reply), and basic context like which page you were on and your selected language.
- Technical data. Your IP address is used briefly and automatically to prevent abuse (rate limiting) and is not linked to any account, since Viadine does not have user accounts or logins. Your language preference is stored only in your own browser (not on our servers).
Third-Party Services We Use
Viadine is built on top of a few external services, each of which processes the specific data described above as part of providing that feature:
- Google Gemini API — reads and translates menu photos.
- Kakao Maps / Local API — powers maps, restaurant search, and distance calculations.
- ODsay — provides public transit route data.
- Resend — delivers contact form messages to us by email.
- Vercel — hosts the app and provides temporary storage used for rate limiting and crowdsourced menu translations.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use advertising or third-party tracking/analytics cookies.
Data Retention
Menu photos are processed to produce a translation and are not stored afterward, unless you explicitly choose to contribute the translation for other visitors (in which case the translated text, not the photo, is kept). Contact form messages are kept in our email inbox. Rate-limiting records automatically expire within about a minute.
Children's Privacy
Viadine is a general-audience travel utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details below and we will remove it.
Your Choices & Data Deletion
You can use Viadine without granting location access — the app falls back to a default reference point.
How to request data deletion from Viadine: Viadine has no accounts or sign-up, so the only personal data we ever hold is what you choose to send us — a contact form message and, optionally, your email address. To request deletion, open the contact form and include the word "delete" in your message; we will remove your message and email address from our inbox. That data is otherwise kept in our inbox until such a request is made. There is no other personal data to delete: menu photos are discarded right after translation and are never stored, and location is used only in the moment and never saved on our servers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
